Peter (Charles Coburn) is a university professor. One day, at his father's request, he goes to a nightclub to find his rakish cousin Keith (James Ellison), but unexpectedly encounters the nightclub singer Francie (Ginger Rogers). The two fall in love at first sight, and after a night of passion, they become husband and wife.
