On August 15, 1944, the 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team parachuted into southern France. Their mission was to support and protect Allied forces advancing towards Berlin. Upon landing in enemy territory, they were engaged in direct combat. During their efforts to complete their mission and join up with their units, three isolated paratroopers stumbled upon a French resistance group in urgent need of assistance. They decided to help rescue some imprisoned guerrilla fighters.
