The story takes place in an apartment called Emerald Hall, where the manager, Tokiko Ogiwara (played by Yoko Natsuki), is a very visionary woman who wants to turn the apartment into a place that helps young people fulfill their dreams. Therefore, the conditions for renting in this apartment are quite unique; instead of discussing price, they only consider whether the guests seeking to rent resonate with the atmosphere of the apartment. Inhabitants here include glass artist Kazuko Horiike (played by Reiko Kataoka), writer Kota Aizawa (played by Tony Nakajima), and photographer Sawa Fujimura (played by Kazumi Kawashima), among others. One day, a man named Eiji Hiyama (played by Masaya Kogawada) arrives at Emerald Hall and opens a used bookstore there. The comings and goings of the residents' joys, sorrows, and emotions are all captured by Sawa, who writes them into his novel titled "Imperfect Moon."
