Alan (Vincent Lindon) is middle-aged and has achieved almost nothing in life except for a few years in prison. Just out of jail and broke, he has no choice but to return to his mother. His elderly mother, Yvonne (Hélène Vincent), naturally has a hard time with her disappointing son, and their conflicts escalate. One day, Alan discovers that his mother has been diagnosed with a tumor. Can this shocking revelation ease the tense atmosphere between them? Knowing her time is short, Yvonne doesn’t want to suffer through illness to end her life; she desires to take control of her fate and has already chosen a "place of death" before the grasp of illness takes her. Alan's heart is filled with mixed emotions upon learning of his mother's decision.
