The film is adapted from a best-selling novel in the Netherlands, telling the story of cancer patient Sophie van der Stap, who bravely faces her illness and experiences nine different wonderful lives through nine wigs. Sophie (Sophie van der Stap) was born in Amsterdam in 1983 and decided to pursue a degree in International Politics due to her love for travel. In early 2005, she was diagnosed with a rare cancer - rhabdomyosarcoma - with tumors of various sizes filling her lungs. In addition to chemotherapy, she also had to undergo radiation therapy. To document this period, Sophie began sharing her cancer-fighting experiences on her blog.
