Song Lianhua (played by Li Jing) and Han Shilong (played by Lin Weitu) are a wealthy heiress and a high official's son born with a silver spoon. Before their wedding, however, the Han family is stripped of their official status, leading Han Shilong and his father to be exiled back to their hometown. After being separated for many years, Song Lianhua falls seriously ill due to her longing for Han Shilong and ultimately passes away, leaving Han Shilong heartbroken upon hearing the news. One day, the soul of Song Lianhua appears. Despite being separated by life and death, Han Shilong is determined to marry her; however, his friend Zhang Tie (played by Jin Wurong) strongly opposes this, claiming that humans and ghosts are on different paths and their union will lead to a bad outcome. He brings a Daoist to exorcise the ghost. Han Shilong overcomes numerous difficulties and finally manages to spend a night with Song Lianhua. Unfortunately, when he wakes up, he discovers that Song Lianhua has ascended to the heavens.
