Five years ago in Hong Kong, Wei from the Shaolin school and Shu from the Wudang school were evenly matched in a hand-to-hand combat competition, leading the judges to decide that they would each train a representative to compete again. Five years later, in Pittsburgh, American girl Jane, after losing her job, decides to go to Hong Kong to participate in the hand-to-hand combat competition to win prize money and investigate her missing father’s whereabouts. Upon arriving in Hong Kong, she is robbed by a group of thugs but is saved by Shu. Shu takes Jane back to her Wudang temple and teaches her the essence of Chinese kung fu and martial arts to help her compete in the tournament. Meanwhile, Wei, who runs a Shaolin martial arts school, discovers the martial arts talent of a homeless girl, Zhou Ling, and decides to train her to compete on her behalf. Wei has always believed that her brother Jaco's suicide was due to Shu wanting to break up with him, and harbors resentment towards Shu, wanting to defeat her in the competition to alleviate her grievances. The tournament gathers female martial arts experts from around the world, and after a fierce battle, Jane and Zhou Ling advance to the finals. On the day of the final match, Jane, who is already seriously injured, turns the tide and exposes the true murderer of her father and Jaco. Wei and Shu finally reconcile, and they lead their disciples to study Chinese martial arts together.
