The story takes place in the 1970s in the United States, where Patricia (Toni Collette) and her father Stan (Frank Moore) live a life dependent on each other. Due to her unfortunate childhood experiences, Patricia longs to have a child of her own. She becomes pregnant through artificial insemination and gives birth to a boy named Henry (Jason Spevack). At the age of 9 months, Henry has already displayed extraordinary talents and intelligence, but his cleverness does not bring him greater happiness. Henry yearns to know who his father is, so with Stan's help, he embarks on a journey to find him, ultimately focusing on a man named Slavin (Michael Sheen). At the same time, Henry learns that he has a half-sister named Audrey (Samantha Weinstein).
