The story is adapted from real events that took place in a convent in Italy during the 17th century. Benedetta (played by Virginie Efira) was born into a wealthy and devout Christian family, and at a young age, her parents sent her to the convent for further education, training her to become a nun. In that era, entering a convent was a fortunate opportunity for a girl. Years flew by, and Benedetta had grown into a young lady and became the capable assistant to the convent's abbess, Virginia (played by Charlotte Rampling). One day, a ragged girl burst into the convent seeking help; her name was Bartolomea (played by Daphne Patakia). With Benedetta's assistance, this poor girl, who had suffered abuse from her father and brother, entered the convent and became a novice. However, Bartolomea proved to be as untameable as a wild horse, and her presence quickly became a challenge for Benedetta.
